Sports Massage

A sports massage is a therapy that focuses reducing muscle tension, increasing blood flow to the injury area and increasing circulation tissue elasticity. Many people (primarily those who are athletic) will come for a sports massage to relieve tight muscles as tightness can limit flexibility and decrease range of motion, not to mention cause pain. A sports massage will, unlike other massages, not just treat the muscles but all the other soft tissue as well, such as the ligaments, tendons, and fascia. (The fascia is a thin layer of fibrous tissue that surrounds the muscle.)

What is the difference between a sports massage and a regular massage?

A sports massage is focused and systematic, targeting muscles that are used in a specific sport and targets injury related areas. It uses various techniques to decrease muscle pain and improve recovery, as well as improve overall range of motion and flexibility to support safe and effective movement. It can be more painful than a regular massage.

In contrast to a sports massage, a regular massage would usually only involve light to moderate pressure, aiming to relax the muscles and promote a sense of calm and relaxation.
